life of charmings

love, family, happiness

a visit to real food farms!

for a while now, my mom and i have both had an interest in getting raw, straight from the cow milk for our homes. i’d already completely given up store-bought milk for maybe the past year or so because everything about the treatment of commercial milk just freaks me out [unhealthy cows, antibiotics, milk stripped of beneficial enzymes]. i’m not sure what milk is exactly once they’re done with it, but i don’t believe that it’s good for you. but! i love cereal and milk. and cookies and milk. and i kinda want a little milk!

so, last week, maddalena, my mommy, and i went out to visit a farm near here called real food farms that offers a herd-share… meaning you pay to own a portion of the grass-fed jersey cows so that you can pick up your mason jar of fresh milk every week! they also have a csa program so you can getcha some fresh veggies and such. so, all three of our farm-lovin’ souls were pretty much in heaven. basically, the man that owns this place, he is just really lucky that i didn’t a.) decide to just stay there and never leave, or b.) snag the baby lambies they have there to snuggle in my bed with me.

and i think i’ve pretty much come to a decision on a new matter: i want a pet lamb. like, i really want a pet lamb! the cuteness is too much. and i don’t want to eat one. i want to snuggle and love one forever, and i mean that. buuut, for now i’ll settle for milk… and maybe some fresh cloves of that garlic!

[…and then she scooped out some cream for her coffee and lived happily ever after!]

oh little goat!! coming back to USA i'm so scared about all the chemicals and gross stuff in food here. in europe it's just so different and i'm not scared of what the food has been injected with.

That little lamb is so cute. I'd love to find a farm like that around here. Is the raw milk really expensive there? I know we can find some here, but it's like 3 times the price of the normal one.

We've been having the same feelings lately and have converted to almond milk! I use it for everything I would have used cow's milk for! We love it!

i totally feel ya on the scary-ness of what goes into our food now. and becoming pregnant has made me even more aware/scared/paranoid. i love that you can go get your milk weekly and you know exactly what's in it (or what isn't in it!). we do the organic veggie pick up but oh how i wish we could get yummy fresh milk too. because i drink a lot of milk.

and what a sweet lambie! i think M would be a welcoming sissy to a little lambie at your house 🙂

Ugh! Buying milk from the grocery store really IS scary! This farm,] and milk straight from the cow sounds so perfect! I need to find a farm near me asap! And I agree on the little lamb pet! Get you a lamb girl so I can awe at its cuteness via the internet!;)
