life of charmings

love, family, happiness

November 19, 2013 in fall· maddalena· mommyhood· thankful

because babies are so sparkly

so, we’re over 15 months in now! and i still wake up completely amazed every day that i get to share the sunshine and the rain and the good moods and the bad and all the little moments of my day to day with a tiny girl who embodies all of my very favorite qualities. like. what! how did i get so lucky? is this a trick? when is everything gonna go wrong? but then i remember that, i mean, things do go wrong, obviously. little things. fortunately no serious trauma or diseases so far, though, so i’m totally keeping my fingers crossed there!

anyway, having maddalena around just makes it so much easier for me to see past the little frustrations and bits of gloom that may arise. i just look at her glittery eyes and soft cheeks and big smile and oh, i just want to eat her up every single day of my life. and i really can’t help it that i have to express this emotion at least… 400 times a minute. if i had known long ago how much fun i would have as a mom… well, it’s probably good that i didn’t! i just might have jumped on board that baby train a whole lot sooner. but ooh, i had not a single clue, now did i? πŸ˜‰

part of what i really love about spending my days with maddalena is how much she balances my perspective and reminds me what life should really be about. i spend so much of my time now enjoying the simplest pleasures with her, always doing my best to protect her sparkly little innocence… and it does my own soul so much good! i mean, it’s sad to me when i think about how quickly we lose our child-like sparkle as we get older. we grow up, of course, but God calls us all His children, and i can’t help but think we were designed to sparkle a bit more than we tend to as grownups. to really enjoy the good and simple parts of life. a nice breeze. a pretty drive. a cute pup. a field of flowers. a warm hug! a good convo. you know, those sorts of things!

but then, we are all human, and some things can’t be helped. we get weighed down by money and doubts and other weighed-down people, and eventually it all gets the best of us because we live in a world that says, “look at those kardashians! man, are they sparkly!” but oh no no, that ain’t sparkle, my friend. thats’s ehh… that’s something else.

you know what is sparkly? sunshine. glitter. glitter paint. glitter glue. christmas decorations. love. heaven. diamonds. babies. i feel pretty confident that babies are the sparkliest of all, and gosh, am i glad to have me some of that! heaven sparkles supremo every day.
thanks for the life lessons, maddo girl! i wanna be like you when i grow up.

*my brother took these photos recently and i really, really love them! thank you, brodles! <3

these photos are precious! and i agree, one of my favorite things about being a mama is seeing the world through jake's eyes. the kid lights up when the dog walks in the room and it's the highlight of his day. i just love it.

    This is greatness!
I'm often reminded of the innocence that children embody while working with them daily. And it's so true! I try to keep that bit o' sparkle from my childhood going, because it's sooo beneficial to my relationship with Christ!

oh gosh, i have such anxiety about all of the sad emotions wesley will have to go through some day πŸ™ its so unfair that such a perfect little happy boy will have to deal with lame people. it makes me think how much marks mom pry thought about him like that and i better treat him nice πŸ˜‰
