life of charmings

love, family, happiness

November 2, 2016 in fall· our little fam· story of our lives

we voted!!

we went and early voted last week… naturally we wore our stripes for america!!
since our voting location this year is at our local library, they even have a little voting booth set up for the little ones, which i thought was such a cute idea!! so, madd and rocco voted with my mom while i took my turn voting with the regular ole adults. 😉

the only candidate in the running for the kids election that i’d heard of was llama llama [as in red pajama!], but apparently pete the cat is another huge favorite! m said she voted for llama llama [we have a couple of llama llama books!], and apparently rocco voted for all of them. 🙂 and of course, they were sooo proud of their stickers!!

oooh, how i love those sweet little voters of mine!

it’s crazy to think just how much this election has consumed my thoughts now that i’m not just voting with my rights in mind, but also the lifelong wellbeing of two tiny individuals that i love more than absolutely anything. it hadn’t even occurred to me until recently just how often i think and pray about what their lives will look like one day based on this election… but it’s true. preserving their freedoms, their safety… there’s nothing more important to me, you know? and as their mom, it’s scary! there’s a lot to think about! and every time i see someone fighting and pushing and arguing for something that i don’t want for my children and their future, goodness, it’s frustrating! all the disagreeing. all the divided views and beliefs. it makes me sad. and worried.

…but then i feel hopeful!! because!! regardless of your views on this election, we are each equipped with the most powerful tool there is. and that is prayer. it’s the most important thing we do in our day. it brings us so much closer to God’s peace and love and light and unifies us in the name of truth. and we have a massive opportunity to show that right now. here. in america!

God’s truth will never change. and one way or another, that truth will find its way through the darkness. it’s incredible to me how many brave souls there are working and fighting fearlessly for it! so, then i think, well the least i can do is pray! but no. it’s not the least at all. it’s the greatest thing i can do for our country and fellow countrymen.

so, especially in this next week, but really… forever! i want to make sure and channel the energy that fuels my fear into prayer. when i’m tempted to feel angry. when i’m tempted to lie awake in bed wondering what my future and my children’s futures will look like, i’m remembering to pray instead. i know that God can work through anyone. He can change even the most corrupt hearts!

anyway, i was reading in my favorite little devotional the other day, and i swear, that book is the best. it’s short enough to be completely unintimidating, hallelujah, but still always so on point for me! i just loved this bit about brother lawrence and how he practiced the presence of God. “even if he peeled potatoes, he did it for the glory of God.” that is everything, right? if we all defined ourselves with that kind of purpose, we’d hardly have anything to fight over!

i sometimes share these on my snapchat [beebee2211], but i thought i’d share my favorite parts here, too, this time. 🙂

…i just adore those verses! and i think they’re a perfect little something to meditate on as we head into the election. here’s to one nation, under God! happy voting, beautiful friends!!

I think that is just the best idea for the kids to have a place to vote as well! We have to start them young otherwise they don't see the importance in suuuuch an important thing! And excellent passages too!

How fun to get to vote at the library and to have a station set up for the kids to have their own election! Adorable.

I wish we could vote early- that would be so convenient. But, alas.
