yesterday was the birthday of a very special little friend of mine!

i’ll never forget that sunshiney day our little 6th grade selves
came upon one another for the very first time
standing by the water trough after a riding lesson
and realized that we went to school together!
she was new that year and i hadn’t gotten to know her
but she was sweet and cute and had such thick, shiny hair
and we very quickly became the bestest of besties.

and then…
we learned to drive together
and took dance classes together
and made up our own languages
and picked future kids’ names
and quarreled like sisters
[we once fought over a cinnabon.]
and loved britney spears
and had grocery store wars
using makeup samples as weapons
and had lots of sleepovers, even when she was grounded
[i never got grounded. and i’m pretty sure she was always grounded.]
then we had boyfriends
and parties
and college visits
and she was my bridesmaid
and now we buy gifts for each other’s pets
and travel to florida together
and text each other about how funny jimmy fallon is.
i am oh so thankful for april
and every one of her 25 years!
