it’s that time of year, finally!! my favorite, faaavorite time of year… where the sunsets just get better each evening… and as you sit watching the sun go down, the horse silhouettes in the golden sunshine are so pretty and peaceful you just want to jump right in with them. and sometimes… you do!!
this last weekend got me so excited for a long and beauuutiful summer! summers are so meaningful to me, and i tend to really favor all my summertime memories… from romping barefoot with friends as a kid… to hot days by the pool in high school… nights under the stars when i started dating steven… of course the summer we got married! and late afternoon rides with casey through it all… ooooh, summer! it’s my most ridiculously sentimental season, and naturally, every single summer memory just gets more romanticized for me as time goes on!
aaand so… i’ll never forget the summer i got casey, my horse. i was 10! so was he. he’d been out to pasture for a year and was one fat chunk of a boy. but iiii was a girl in love, and i spent all the time i possibly could with him. we had some days where i was so so frustrated and days that were so good. and for 18 years he’s been such a huge part of me… summer in, summer out, and all the rest of the year too!
since i can’t ride currently, and casey is an older guy now as it is, it’s really important to me to just savor every stage of life with him these days. it’s so sweet to just be near him and smell him and hug him… and to see how much maddalena loves her time with him and the others! and oh, horses, my goodness, they always amaze me with their intuition… it’s precious how they stick their noses right up to a 34-week baby bump, like, “well, well, who’s in there!?” they know! they just know things!
my best peeps and i shared some perfect sunset + field moments on a flawless evening this last memorial weekend, and i could not be more grateful to my sis for capturing some of my new favorite family photos!! i absolutely cannot resist a good golden sunset glow, and i’m always the happiest enjoying it with my loves. i can’t wait to have a little baby boy right there with us soon, too!! you know. like, out of belly style. 😉
ps. my silver horseshoe necklace is from the sweet people at helen ficalora, and i absolutely love it!! i’ve been on the hunt for jewelry lately that is good quality, symbolic and truly meaningful to me… something i want to keep forever instead of something you just pay a few bucks for and wear a handful of times! anyway, one item i’ve been on the lookout for recently is a horseshoe necklace, and ta-daaa! they have a collection of beautiful charm necklaces that i just fell iiin love with, which luckily included a perfect little horseshoe. captures my summer heart’s sentiment just wonderfully, i think. yay!!
and and, my dress, one of my top fav dresses ever, was on my pinterest for. so. long. before i finally found it on ebay last year! glooryyy! i love when that happens. and oh, free people, always speaking to my soul.
