our official celebration for mr. rocco man is on saturday, but we wanted to make his actual day of birth a special one!! and when you’re one, it doesn’t take much. 🙂 rocco woke up to balloons and he was pretty happy with that! i baked a few one-serving healthy blackberry cobblers for that night, and then we headed to the farm for a smidge and were lucky enough to snag a splash in the pool before rain hit. so, a handful of birthday wins! i also may have picked up some starbucks on the way, in honor of what i surely wasn’t doing one year ago. 😉
we’ve also decided to keep a little birthday tradition going that started when i was little where you get your own little baby/buddy for your first birthday! i got my baby, “baby maggie,” when i was one. my brother got a “my buddy” – remember those?! i don’t think they make them anymore! anyway, steven had one, too, when he was little! my sister got a baby that resembled her so much because she had a hilarious amount of hair. her name ended up being “baby big hair.” haha! so, on maddalena’s first birthday she got her baby, “baby lucy,” [she had a phase of naming her babies after her friends!] and so, of course, i had to find a little guy for rocco!
…a little cabbage patch rocco twin!! and the puppy bib, ahh, i just can’t even. so much cuteness. so, you can probably just guess who is kiiind of in love with rocco’s baby! mmmhmm, mini-mommy maddalena, of course! and naturally, i cannot blame her at all. but. territorial instincts run strong with the females in this household, so… we’re working on respecting each other’s personal property as well as sharing. 😉 wish us luck! ha!
big boy ended up taking a little evening nap before we dug into some birthday cobbler. he’s been eating blackberries lately, so i made him a healthy coconut flour based cobbler… and it was pretty good!!! i actually just now ate his leftovers. 😉 but anyway, i also made some whipped cream right before to dollop on top, and i’d say that was his favorite part!!
all in all, i think he’s pretty darn happy to be one year old!! something we just adore about rocco is that he radiates so much joy. we just can’t get enough of it… like… ever! and even though i’ve maaaaaybe been a little more emotional than i anticipated about him hitting a year already [each child just goes faster, they say, and ummm, i’m gonna go ahead and agree!], i’m mostly really excited for him. and for us! knowing how much fun it is as they grow, gosh, i want a million babies. don’t know how many i can realistically accomplish. but. they totally make life better. 🙂

and oh!!! okay, i have to include this, too. because i just love crazy life as captured by our maddalena rosey. 😉 we were just talking and she called out from the sunroom, “guuuuys! smiiiiiile!!”
…and smile, we did. 🙂 well, 2/3 of us, anyway!
