just another entry in the blackberry diaries!

[maddalena took this!!!!!! i mean, that girl. she just nails it in the life department so much of the time!]

[my sweet and sassy little bff! life with her is so so good.]

[as if i haven’t been doing farm chores since i was 10… at this point, madd knows how it all goes even better than i do!]

it’s that time of year!!!! our visits over to the little farmyfarm these days are definitely requiring regular peeks at the wild blackberry vines to see how close they are to being ripe. last we checked, most of the blackberries had baaarely even turned red…

but this time!! we were so excited to find a handful of plump and ready blackberries!!!!! and oh, when i see one of those suckers, all juicy and delicious looking, waiting to be picked, i just cannot help but eat it right then and there. most that we spotted were still super red, but we came away with a good handful. and oh, the visions of cobbler i’ve now got dancing in my head slash nose slash tummy!!

what’s funny, too, is that i totally did not think we would find any ripe blackberries on our little saturday spin around the trail. but then we did! and then it occurred to me, as we played music and picked and nibbled, that the very first time we took a tiny maddalena out to pick blackberries [it was sooo hot! and her little cheekies were so red underneath all the purple from the berries!], i had that very same top on! with denim cutoff shorts, no less! haha. some things never change. 🙂 and goodness, when i look back at past years and see how fast time flies, well, i’m darn glad for the things aren’t changing quite as quickly!

anyway, this little ritual has become one we have so come to look forward to!! because the best things in life are growing wild and free, right? wiiiiild and free.

oh!! and happy summer solstice today!! i know i’ll be soaking in every extra second of summertime glory!
